Love data visualization? Are you interested in creating data visualizations that would help saving LGBTQI lives?
For our new challenge, Data for a Cause have teamed up with Rainbow Railroad to help visualizing state-sponsored violence towards LGBTQI people.
This is a great opportunity to show your data visualization skills while generating awareness about LGBTQI individuals living in fear and isolation due to government and police supported persecution and violence.
In countries all over the world, LGBTQI people live in basic fear for their freedom, their safety, and their lives. They often have nowhere to turn because their government and police not only tolerate but encourage this brutality. Rainbow Railroad exists to help these people get out of danger to somewhere safe by providing information and a route to safety.
We have up-to-date legal data on LGBTQI rights and 2017 casework data. So, if you haven't already, sign up to participate in the challenge details and explore the data set when it becomes available!
Here is some inspiration from Rainbow Railroad:
January 22, 2018: the Data for a Cause challenge begins. Data for a Cause participants are the first to get the data via email.
February 5, 2018: Submission deadline. Gathering and analysis of data visualizations begins.
February 7, 2018: Review of the entries by GFW begins. Once the review is complete, the winners are announced.
